Dargin’s Farm is located on the banks of the Hunter River, and is being offered by private treaty after being in the hands of three generations of the Russell family.

It was Originally given as a land grant by Governor Macquarie in 1821 to Thomas Dargin. A prominent Windsor businessman and one of the party of explorers who volunteered to accompany John Howe on his journey of exploration, which opened up the Patrick Plains shire.  Benjamin Singleton who gave his name to the town was also one of that party of explorers.

Ideally situated along the banks of the Hunter River and astride Loaders creek, this land has been an important part of the agricultural development of the shire of Singleton variously raising sheep, dairy cows, pigs and now operated as a beef enterprise.  It is a combination of rich alluvial river flats and gently undulating hill country, which provides expansive views along the banks of the HR.

The 131 ha (323 acre) property is only eight kilometres from the township of Singleton and less than two ours from the vineyards, Newcastle, the coast and Sydney.

Since being in the Russell family hands, the farm has been extensively developed with irrigation, electric fencing, machinery & hay sheds and pasture improvement getting maximum income from the property.

Two centre pivots and 120 underground stand pipe irrigation, waters most of the improved140 acres of Kikuyu, Rye grass, clovers and other natural pasture and grasses. Approx 80 acres are suitable for Lucerne cropping.  Each year since the family ceased dairying approximately 60 acres is oversown with Ryegrass for winter-feed and silage making.

Three irrigation Licences keep this farm one of the most profitable in the district.  The Hunter River has provided one of the most secure water regimes with only one year in the last 24 since Glennies Creek dam was built where there has not been full licence entitlement.  This is an outstanding drought proof farm that can handle dry conditions with general security supplementary and Well water licences to complement a first class irrigation system.

The farm has the capacity to make 500-600 bales of silage for winter feed if required.

As a result cattle on Dargin’s farm can be seen standing knee high in lush green feed for most of the year.  The value of the land can be seen in the quality of the cattle which regularly weigh-in heavy on the scales making up to $1000 a head for 2 year olds steers & heifers.

The carrying capacity at present is 100 breeders with calves and 70 growing steers 12-24 months.

Stands of mature trees provide shade for the cattle along creek banks and on the hills together with a number of more recently planted groves.

The property includes 4 machinery and hay sheds, an equipped dairy, good stockyards and loading ramp, and a 4-bedroom weatherboard home with double garage.  A second two-storey brick home with pool, on a separate title, is available for sale by private tender.

Town water is connected to the property.

The property offers opportunity to use fodder production; as a dairy; beef production; horses or just lifestyle living and will appeal to a variety of buyers.
